           Color and Lighting in Interior Design 

Color and lighting play a huge role in interior design. "Lighting plays a crucial role in interior design. It has the power to transform a room by creating ambiance, enhancing colors and textures, and highlighting architectural features" (Foyr 2023) This shows the importance that this holds. One cannot think about color and lighting till the last minute. This must always stay in a person's mind when designing. 

Working together

These two work hand and hand with each other. The lighting can change how a color appears. For example, the picture below shows how a couch's color changes with the natural light in the house is on it to when the lamp next to it is turned on.

Natural lighting

Natural lighting also affects how colors look. During the daytime, the colors look more bright and intense. A designer can not pick a color out to match another item until it is looked at in natural lighting too. The photos below show the change of the same color from artificial lighting to natural.

The Differences in Natural Lighting 

Obviously, there are going to be differences in natural lighting. This happens when the sun goes down or when it is rising. The picture that I have chosen shows how lighting can impact the same area. The color of the water changes just because of how the natural lighting is reflecting off of it. This is important to keep in mind when designing because you have to understand the lighting will change and it will affect the color.

Fortunately, because the lighting does change the colors, it lets us see more hues of the color. This can be beneficial in many ways. Colors make people feel different ways. For example, yellow is normally a color that makes people feel happy. This helps convey feelings about a space without having to say anything. Colors help people feel different ways without even realizing it.
